A pet odor problem can be addressed with either a full pet treatment or a topside pet treatment. At UCS, we perform a full pet treatment for any moderate or severe pet odor problem. A full pet treatment includes removing and replacing the soiled carpet pad, as the source of the odor is primarily contained in the pad, enzyme treating the subfloor, backside and front of the carpet, and steam cleaning and extracting both the back and front of the carpet. This is the procedure recommended by the Institute of Inspection, Cleaning and Restoration Certification (IICRC) in their Standard #401 (Odor Control).
For mild pet odor and dander problems, a topside pet treatment may be sufficient. A topside pet treatment involves only the final steps of a full pet treatment - enzyme treating the top of the carpet and steam cleaning it. Make sure that when you receive a price quote from a vendor for a pet treatment that you know which type of pet treatment they intend to perform so you can make an apples-to-apples comparison of the services and pricing.
We are also experts at handling cigarette and curry odor problems. Particularly with cigarette odors, removing the source of the odor can be difficult, as all surfaces in the unit must be either cleaned or sealed. Once this has been completed, if odor remains, an ozone machine or vaportek (for occupied units) can be used to remove lingering odors.
